In some patients the harmony of the face can be obtained with a simple modification of the position of the chin.

The oval of the face ends with this anatomical structure, its presence, absence or exaggeration are evident to the eye..

The chin is formed by bone, muscle, fat, and skin, its shape is determined by genetics and in certain cases by some kind of accident… Its surgical modification is possible, just by performing an aesthetic analysis of face and a cephalometric study of the x-rays, to be able to reach the correct diagnosis and proceed with the planning.

If the projection of the chin is not enough or it’s exaggerated, it can be corrected. If the chin is too long or too short it can operated to reach ideal limits. If it’s asymmetric or if the patient doesn’t have a chin it also can be shaped.

Once the patient has been documented with all the necessary blood and cardiac exams, also x-rays and photos, the procedure, which is known as SLIDING GENEOPLASTY, is planned.

The surgery is performed in the operating room of the medical center, under general and local anesthesia. An incision is done inside the mouth towards the chin. The chin bone is cut to be able to move it frontward or backward, or diminish its height or increase it, according to what we want to accomplish. Once the desired movement is performed the bone is secured with wire or plates and screws made of metal or a reabsorbable material. The mucous is shut using absorbable sutures.

Nobody will notice the scar since it will be located inside the mouth and it’s small. The patient must stay overnight at the medical center and can go home the next day.

This is a very easy surgery and one that makes big changes, making this a marvelous procedure for the patients who need it.

Sliding Geneoplasty is not advised for patients who suffer of osteoporosis or an important reabsorbation of the jaw bone.
