Breast augmentation: answer for most frequent questions
I’M AFRAID OF GETTING BREAST IMPLANTS BECAUSE OF BREAST CANCER
Much has been said and done about breast cancer in patients who
have had breast implants, even though, up to this moment it
hasn’t been proven these prostheses are the cause of breast
cancer, rather it’s related to genetic phenomenon, environmental
problems, tobacco abuse, etc. As a matter of fact, each day more
women all around the world are getting breast implants.
ARE THE SCARS TO BIG?
No, on the contrary, scars are very small. There a different
techniques to place the implants, and as a result of this there
are different scars in different places. They could be right in
the limit of the aureole and the skin, they could be in the
inframammary crease, or under the arm, even near the navel.
CAN I GET PREGNANT AND BREAST FEED AFTER GETTING BREAST
IMPLANTS?
Of course you can, because the area in which the implants are
placed will not stop milk production at the glandular level nor
obstruct the flow through the nipple, it will not change the
quality of the milk, either.
IF I BECOME PREGNANT OR IF I GAIN WEIGHT WILL MY BREAST SAG EVEN
WITH THE IMPLANTS?
The implants will increase the volume, turgescence, and firmness
or your breast, although when your volume increases the natural
weight of the breasts also increases and as for the natural laws
of time and gravity, they will cause breasts to sag once again,
even though this drooping will be slow and it will take longer
than if you hadn’t had the implants.
HOW
LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE?
The surgery takes about an hour and 15 minutes, afterwards the
patient stays in the recovery room for 2 more hours, then she
can go home.
DO I HAVE TO STAY IN THE HOSPITAL?
No, it’s an out patient procedure, this means that after the
operation and recovery process you can go home.
HOW MANY TYPES OF IMPLANTS ARE THERE?
There are various types and qualities of implants, depending of
the brand and obviously the price.
Now a days textured and filled with silicon gel, or textured
inflated with saline solution can be used, or even the ones of
polyurethane are returning; in all these we can find different
profiles and dimensions according to their volume. The election
will rely on the location of the introduction, the surgical
technique, the surgeon will recommend the best choice.
DOES THE AREOLE OR THE NIPPLE LOOSE SENSITIVITY AFTER THE
SURGERY?
As for my experience I haven’t seen permanent lose of
sensibility, eventually there could be a discreet lose of
sensibility but temporary, sensibility is recovered after a few
days, obviously this sensibility lose is caused by the handling
and the inflammation of the breast.
Even though, there are some recommendations for your breast
after the procedure that should be carefully followed. Remember
that you will undergo a surgical intervention, and as in any
other one, previously your doctor has to make an evaluation, for
this reason it is very important how you choose your doctor. You
should choose the doctor who inspires the most confidence and
puts you at ease. You should also ask about his academic
background, where did he study and for how long, or if you
prefer you could make these questions to THE ECUADORIAN SOCIETY
OF PLASTIC, AESTHETIC AND RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY, and this way
find out any academic or postgraduate records. Remember you
could encounter pseudo plastic surgeons without academic
preparation. Take precautions, it’s your own health.
